An athletic ten-year-old and his mom sat at my small office table excited to plan out tournaments for the upcoming year. My goal was to help them sort through the maze of tournaments that would fit his goals for the year of great competition and fun. As I started to gather some information from them, his mother said,

“I just want to say this upfront. My son’s golf is a big investment and like any financial decision, I want to see good returns like a college scholarship.”

True top performance is separating yourself worth from your game. Labeling your child’s talent as “an investment” will defeat the purpose.
