One of the behavioral traits you can measure through DISC testing is the Dominance trait. If you test high in this trait you LOVE to compete and win, but you HATE to lose.

One of my most memorable, intense family consults was mentoring a family about dealing with their competitive daughter after a game. The mother thought it would help on the ride home to logically discuss what went wrong in her daughter’s performance. The car ride always ended with screaming and tears. My advice to the mother was to say nothing for at least an hour. Magically, the fights in the car subsided that summer.

Telling a competitive child all the things they did wrong after a performance ensures one thing...they will eventually find something else to do.
